Mixing patters can be tricky. You look at magazines and see the outlandish ensembles on models and it looks amazing. Then you try to do it at home and it does not come out as good. Why is that? Well first of all, ads are made for shock value and nobody actually walks around like that, and second of all, it takes some time to get it right. The key to mixing is to match the colors rather than patterns. A lot of it is personal preference, but everybody knows what looks right and what doesn't. If some patterns are really busy, then try to distribute it or break it up with a solid color like here with the skirt. There have always been arguments against mixing the two but ideally plaid is a series of stripes in a more complicated way so there is nothing to be afraid of. All details matter, everything down to the cuts and crops of each piece. A more modest neckline and long sleeve balances out the length of the skirt, and the boots are just tall enough to where it still looks sharp. The silhouette of this outfit is similar to a school girl style which will always be a flattering look. Challenge: Try to mix and match!!! I have missed posting it has been hard to lately :( I hope you enjoy! A special shout out to Ashley @ashley.nieto for taking the pictures and finding this amazing wall. She's a profesh. She literally sat on the floor for DA blog pics so she's hired.
