I had no plan for this outfit other than I was running late to her house and I threw on something easy. I am a big fan of plaid just because you can wear it so many ways and you do not see it too often in dress form. To add some color I asked if I could wear her glasses because they somehow look good with every single outfit.... it's sorcery. You look at magazines and see the outlandish ensembles on models and it looks amazing. Then you try to do it at home and it does not come out as good. Why is that? Well first of all, ads are made for shock value and nobody actually walks around like that, and second of all, it takes some time to get it right. The key to mixing is to match the colors rather than patterns. A lot of it is personal preference, but everybody knows what looks right and what doesn't. If some patterns are really busy, then try to distribute it or break it up with a solid color like here with the skirt. There have always been arguments against mixing the two but ideally plaid is a series of stripes in a more complicated way so there is nothing to be afraid of. ...
